“As a sculptor working with steel as my medium, it is my goal to make this rigid substance appear soft and supple, fluid and dynamic. I seek out subjects that enable me to express textures and curves that defy expectations and invite the touch of a hand. My artistic direction has been largely influenced by European artist blacksmiths, using processes and techniques of heat to form and move steel into narrative sculptures for public exhibition.

In my new body of work, Meditation Benches, I’m creating a public space for meditation. A comfortable spot to sit down, close your eyes and think about the positive words that are posted on the back of the bench. To envision the wings behind you lifting you up to a place where you can concentrate on those words. There are 10 brass plaques, each containing one word for contemplation; useful, contributory, purposeful, aware, respectful, strong, resourceful, community, receptive, productive.” – Victoria Patti
