Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm was the first of the fall lecture series, “Art & Money”—a platform for artists, academics and art dealers to discuss the business of art.
Panelists included:
- Jim Zimpel, MSU Assistant Professor of sculpture who will talk about art education with a focus on income, insurance and advice for artists entering the “real world.”
- Chaucer Silverson, owner of Artchaucer Art Gallery explains art from an auctioneer and sales perspective as well as art in the non-profit sector.
- Amber Jean, sculptor, will speak on commissioning and pricing art, marketing personal work and finding sales outlets.
- Dalton Brink, owner of Cottonwood Club and pioneer of the underground art scene in Bozeman, talks about approaching art and money in a non-traditional setting including Bring Your Own Art (BYOA).
- Amy Kirkland, owner of Altitude Gallery explains the commission structure between artists and galleries, marketing as a business owner and maintaining relationships with artists and art lovers.
