Spiritsafe #14 is part of a series that speaks to funerary objects and references the “spirit-house” of native peoples of the far north. I have a long running interest in ritual objects and legends of “non-western” people and prehistoric peoples and cultures. The spirithouse of the Athabascan group in the Yukon, parts of Alaska and parts of the Northwestern Territories is a physical residue of their interpretation of “purgatory” as taught by missionaries in the 1800s.
